Uganda Cranes first choice goalie Dennis Onyango and his South African club Mamelodi Sundowns are the 2016 CAF champions league winners despite losing 1-0 to Egyptian side Zamalek SC on Sunday night.

The South Africans entered the second leg of the final played at the Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria Egypt with a 3-0 advantage picked in Pretoria a week ago.

Onyango was unfortunate in the game where he only managed to play 28 minutes and later stretched off after failing to recover from a third injury.

The injury stoppages forced the referee to add eight minutes to the first half but the Brazilians held on until the 64th minute before Stanley Ohawuchi broke the deadlock.

The victory leaves Sundowns USD 1.5 million richer with a chance to play against other continental champions in the coveted Fifa club world cup finals to be held in Japan later from 8th December.

Sundowns will enter the games from the quarter finals stage.

The continental achievement is the first for Mamelodi Sundowns, second for South Africa after Orlando Pirates and Onyango becomes the first Ugandan to achieve such a fete.

Lineups:

Zamalek: Genesh, Youssef, Dowidar, Gabar, Khaled (Shikabala 76’), Fathi, Hamed (Salah 85’), Tawfik, Stanley, Hefny (Mayuka 85’), Morsi.

Sundowns: Onyango (Sandilands 28’), Mbekile, Soumahoro, Nthethe, Langerman, Kekana, Mabunda, Tau, Dolly, Billiat (S. Zwane 84’), Laffor (Modise 72’).
