Bazza Holdings 0-1 Masavu
Masavu kept on course to winning promotion to the Azam Uganda premier league after nicking a hard fought win against Bazza Holdings.
Onesmus Andama’s late free kick helped Masavu bag all three points in a game played at the Kawempe Muslim valley grounds on Thursday.
In a game of two halves, the hosts took charge in the opening half before Masavu returned recharged after recess and finally picking a win.
Kenneth Tumusime got the first attempt in the opening minute but Bazza’s goalkeeper denied the Masavu striker swatting the ball away.
Bazza then had a chance to take the lead in the 10th minute with Julius Muyanja’s cross meeting Saad Kibirango in the six yard box but his shot went above the goal area.
A poor clearance from Muyanja five minutes later almost gifted Masavu on the other end but lanky forward Nelson Wafula fired wide.
There was a claim for a goal by the Bazza technical bench when Rashid Nsubuga scored but referee indicated he had already called for an offside.
The intensity kept through even after recess and Roger Mugisha tested Masavu goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa four minutes into the second half.
The home side called for the first change of the game in the 56th minute with Sulaiman Kato replacing Robert Mugisha.
Masavu too had changes with Fred Omanyi paving way for Bashir Bheto while Yasin Ssali was replaced by James Mukasa in the 57th minute and 60th minute respectively.
Sharif Ssozi was forced to make an acrobatic save at the hour mark parring Moses Kiggundu’s free kick that was headed for goal.
The deciding moment came in the 82nd minute when Onesmus Andama powerful shot from a free kick hit the ground before going past goalkeeper Ssozi to break the deadlock.
Masavu had a chance to double the lead but Bheto failed to connect to Rashid Nsubuga’s cross with keeper to beat.
The result means Masavu cement their leadon top of the table in the Rwenzori group on 14 points in seven games while Bazza holdings remain on nine points.
