
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni hosted the Uganda Cranes in a state banquet on Thursday afternoon and promised to clear all their outstanding arrears.
The Cranes have been demanding bonuses including the USD 10,000 promised by the federation for the team’s qualification to the 2017 Africa cup of Nations finals.
“I will pay all the players’ outstanding bonuses before the match against Congo Brazzaville,” the president promised and added that
“The lunch is just an outward sign of how much Uganda appreciates you. This is just the beginning.” “I am a former footballer and cricketer.
Therefore, I love sports because it also helps in health promotion, building personal character, leadership and promoting a country.”
The first lady who is also the minister in charge of sports and education thanked the Cranes for their qualification and reiterated government commitment in supporting sports.
“Today is a beautiful day, you representing all Ugandans for the success achieved on 4th September 2016 when you beat Comoros,” She said.
“The entire nation has love and trust in you. Never betray it. We are committed that sports gets all the support it deserves.”
The president is expected to attend the 2018 world cup qualifier between the Uganda Cranes and Congo Brazzaville scheduled for Saturday 12th at the Mandela national stadium in Namboole.
