Bright Stars Coach Blames Poor Performance on Delayed Payment of Players

Bright Stars head coach Fred Kajjoba has raised concerns about the under facilitation of his team and he believes it is the reason why the club has failed to get positive results recently.

Kajjoba revealed to ChimpSport that players have gone about 3 months without salary.

“We are performing poorly because players are not getting any pay. How do you motivate someone who has gone over three months without salary to play?” a furious Kajjoba asked.

He also claims, the team now does not train regularly but the players only come around a day prior to the game.

“It has become hard to convince players to come and train and hence we end up having just one training session prior to a game,” Kajjoba said.

“So do you expect us to earn positive results against teams like KCCA, Vipers or URA that are well funded?”

Bright stars have had a poor run in the league that has seen the club now go five games without victory and winning just once in the previous eight league games.

Efforts to have a comment from club President Ronnie Mutebi seemed futile with his phone off at the time of publication.

The problems at Bright stars seemed to have opened up at the start of the season following the departure of some of the key players in the team.

Bernard Muwanga and Joseph Nsubuga joined SC Villa while goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya sought for greener pastures in the Kenyan Premier League at Sofapaka.

There was an attempt to fill the gaping voids left behind with signing of several players and the arrival of sponsors in Lato Milk and Ferro Mobile seemed to have restored hope.

However, this has not been the case with reports of players going months without pay cropping up.

Bright stars who are 7th on the table with 16 points face Jinja Municipal Council (JMC ) Hippos on Tuesday in Jinja.

Muteesa 4-1 Buikwe She Red stars

Muteesa I Royal University maintained their perfect start this season with a comfortable win over lackluster Buikwe Red stars to make four wins in four games.

The game played on Sunday at Kawempe valley ground clearly put out the struggles that Buikwe She Red stars have gone through since the start of the season.

From a side that played in the finals two seasons ago, Buikwe look a shadow of themselves after the departure of several players and were outwitted 4-1 by a vibrant Muteesa.

The university side took lead a minute after the half hour mark with Buikwe’s Shamim Najjuko scoring into her own net.

However, the lead was short lived as Buikwe levelled matters a minute later through Sandra Najjuka.

With four minutes to the break, lanky forward Cissy Nakalawa helped Mutesa regain the lead scoring from close range.

Muteesa remained dominant even after recess with diminutive playmaker Janet Thungu igniting all the attacks within the midfield.

A second half brace from Sharon Namatovu put the game beyond reach getting onto the score sheet in the 48th minute for the third goal while the other goal came at the hour mark.

The result means Muteesa remain second in Victoria on 12 points in 4 games one point behind leaders Ajax Queens who have played one game more.

The other game played on Sunday saw Olila High school defeat Eastern Heroes 3-0 in the Soroti derby.

Muteesa starting XI: Daizy Nakaziro, Juliet Nabbale, Precious Najjemba, Margaret Birabwa, Stella Namisango, Sarah Babirye, Cissy Nakalawa, Janet Thungu, Janet Nakibuuka, Sharon Namatovu, Betty Namataka

Saints Petition UPL Over Shaban Card Accumulation

Onduparaka football club may hold on to celebrate their first away win in the league as Saints football club have petition the Uganda Premier League secretariat with concerns about Mohammad Shaban.

In a letter dated December 5th 2016, written by Club CEO. Isaac Jurugo, the Saints believe Mohammad Shaban should not have played the game between Saints and Onduparaka on Saturday at Bombo military grounds due to yellow card accumulation.

“Mohammad Shaban who plays for Onduparaka FC accumulated three yellow cards before he played for his team against us on 3rd December 2016,” reads the statement.

“This is not allowed in the rules of the game,” wrote Jurugo.

According to Jurugo, Shaban was not supposed to play and hence the law should apply and Onduparaka should be docked points.

“The purpose of this letter is to formerly bring to your attention our complaint and request that the rules of the game be applied to Onduparaka,” The statement further reads.

“They should be docked 3 points and two goals in our favour. We are ready to back up our claims,” said Jurugo in a letter to UPL.

The Fufa competitions rules and regulations Article 19 sub section 5, clause 11 stipulates that a club that fields an ineligible player shall lose the match by forfeiture to the opposing team.

Shaban scored the lone goal as Onduparaka defeated Saints on Saturday in Bombo to earn their maiden away win.

However, in our own research, ChimpSport found out that Mohammad Shaban was booked in the game against URA on 15th October and he went ahead to miss the game against JMC Hippos in Arua because of suspension.

Shaban returned after the suspension against Lweza on 25th October a game that was played at Namboole on and he was booked in the 69th minute.

The next game Shaban played was the one all draw against Proline in Arua and he was not booked.

Shaban was booked in the following game against Vipers on 15th October in the 73rd minute.

The Uganda Premier League secretariat is yet to come out with a decision over the matter.

Soana vs Express
Kavumba recreation centre 4:30

Mathias Lule began his second stint at Express with a goalless draw against Sadolin Paints on Saturday.

The draw meant Express have now gone seven league games without victory, losing twice and drawing the other five a run that has seen them drop to 8th position just 5 points above the drop zone.

The red eagles make a short trip to Kavumba to get on an unpredictable Soana that have had an impressive start to the season sitting third on the logo on 23 points, only eight behind league leaders KCCA.

Soana head coach Sam Ssimbwa was heavily linked to the Express job before Lule eventually was announced and he meets a side that he is familiar with.

Ssimbwa was at Wankulukuku in 2011/2012 season helping Express win the league title, their last and have now gone four seasons trophy less.

Soana come into the game on the back of a comfortable 3-0 win against BUL away in Jinja and will hope the result will give them momentum in the clash against Express.

However, the Kavumba based side will have concerns about their home record this season failing to record victory in their previous 4 homes games.(drawing two and losing two).

In the similar capacity, Matia Lule will have to improve his defence especially on away grounds.

Express have conceded 9 goals in their last three games away from home (3-2 vs Villa, 3-3 vs Police and 3-1 loss to KCCA)

This will be the 7th meeting between the two sides with each team winning on two occasions while the other three meetings have ends in draws including the recent meeting on 12/04/2016 which ended one all.

Soana boost of the best defence lines in the league conceding just nine goals thus far. Only Sadolin Paints and Kirinya Jinja SS have shipped in fewer (8).

URA vs SC Villa
Mehta stadium, Lugazi 4:30pm

After putting a halt to a 14 match winless streak against Vipers over the weekend, SC Villa face yet another huddle as they take on Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) at Mehta stadium in Lugazi on Tuesday.

SC Villa come into the clash against URA in buoyant mood after earning a comeback 2-1 win against Vipers and will hope they earn a positive result to cut gap on league leaders KCCA who are four points above them on 31 points.

However, like it was the case against URA, the Jogoos will have to erase the bad history against URA away from home.

SC Villa have failed to earn victory against the tax collectors in the last six away games with URA winning three while the other three have ended in stalemates.

Last SC Villa away games against URA

15/05/2016 URA 3-0 SC Villa
10/04/2015 URA 1-1 SC Villa
21/03/2014 URA 1-1 SC Villa
05/04/2013 URA 2-0 SC Villa
22/05/2012 URA 3-1 SC Villa
05/04/2011 URA 1-0 SC Villa

URA on the other hand come into this fixture with a 5 unbeaten run although all the previous three have ended in draws.

Kefa Kisala was furious about the goalless stalemate against Bright stars on Friday but he is optimistic his team will put up a fight that will help them get all three points against SC Villa.

Team news

SC Villa
The blue army will be without striker Alex Kitata who limped off during the 2-1 victory against Vipers.

Godfrey Lwesibawa who leads the assists’ charts with eight is also sidelined after picking an injury on the Vietnam expedition.

Kirinya are second from bottom on 9 points and yet to win a game. Their main challenge has been scoring, managing just a meager 4 goals in as many games.

They take on Proline who equally have had similar struggles picking just a single win thus far coming against lowly JMC Hippos.

Muhammad Shaban will aim inspire his club Onduparaka FC as they welcome BUL FC from Jinja in a match where he returns home for the first time since being crowned the Most Valuable Player this year.

The youngster was crowned on Friday night and was on the score sheet barely quarter an hour in his next game on Saturday. The caterpillars overcame Saints in Bombo to pick first away win.

The caterpillars have not lost any of their last five games with two consecutive wins. They have also not tasted defeat at home overcoming giants KCCA FC, SC Villa, Police and Vipers. However the team has struggled against low ranked clubs, drawing with Proline and JMC Hippos.

“Bul’s position on the table does not mean they are a bad team,” coach Mbabazi noted.

“They have some exciting, physically strong players, an experienced coach and they are fighting the drop zone. These factors make them a difficult opponent to play against.”

“We need the points more than them and therefore, its a fixture where we need quick goals to avoid unsporting characters.”

BUL FC on the other hand have had a torrid first half of the season under coach Frank Anyau’s tenure. They currently languish in the bottom zone with only eleven points out of thirteen games.

The cooking oil makers received a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Soana FC in Jinja on Saturday.

“We played our worst game on Saturday, I just called it a black day,” Anyau said adding that, “There is room for change and that will be done before Tuesday evening.”

“We shall just play our game and will not be intimidated with their fans.”

The hosts will miss the services of wing back Simba Sabir who is out with an ankle injury, Okhuti (knee), Olega sizza with home issues to attend, Olinga (malaria) Gadaffi Gadinho out on suspension but will welcome back Gaddafi Wahab from suspension.

BUL have no serious injury but are likely to rotate their squad with Keeper Mujampani coming in for Emma Kalyowa and Junior Mukisa reinforcing the defense after a calamitous game in Saturday.

JMC Hippos 0-0 Bright stars

Bright stars earned a point off rock bottom placed JMC Hippos in a barren stalemate played on Tuesday at Kakindu stadium.

Kajjoba’s charges finished with ten men with Abdunoor Kanana receiving marching orders midway through the second half.

JMC Hippos asked more questions but failed to put to use the several half chances they created and always looked blunt in the final third.

Diminutive midfielder Vianey Ssekajjugo had the first chance on goal in the 10th minute receiving a well laid cross from Moses Batali but fired direct at goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato.

Batali and Ssekajjugo were at it again ten minutes later with a quick counter attack but defender Abdunoor Kanana made a timely interception to deny the duo chance.

JMC Hippos kept pilling pressure on the visitors but could not get the cutting edge and the two teams headed into the mandatory break goalless.

Fred Kajjoba called for double substitution in the 55th minute with Kokas Opejo and Farouk Banga replacing Methodius Jjungu and Jimmy Kakooza respectively.

Four minutes after the hour mark, forward Abdurahman Ajab had a quick turn inside Bright stars box but his effort sailed above the goal area.

Ajab made a sole run towards goal but Kanaana pulled him down just outside the area and the later was sent off by centre referee Batte.

Despite JMC Hippos coach Lutaalo introducing Dan Shabena, Bright stars held on to earn at least a point.

The result means JMC Hippos remain bottom of the table on 4 points while Bright stars drop to 8th on 17 points

Center back Rashid Toha earned a point for Onduparaka FC at home against BUL football club in a game that exploded with attacks in the first half but deflated in the second

Yunus Sibira had unlocked the game with a spectacular thumping header from a 19th minute corner.

Earlier on, the visitors missed a clear opportunity due to Anyama and Toha’s brilliance in the box. Yudah Mugalu floated a low ball from a counter attack which Kalisa met with a feeble touch but Anyama was on toes to punch away.

Mugalu approached the rebound to shoot but again Toha recovered quick and blocked for a corner.

The Caterpillars stepped their attack mid way the period with Shaban coming closer in the 22nd minute after Wahab had dropped the ball on his feet but again his effort was countered by Walulya with Kalyowa already beaten in position.

Wahab curled in another beauty seven minutes later which found Toha in the right place to thump in for the leveller.

Soana 1-2 Express

Express football club finally tested victory after nicking a hard fought win against bogey side Soana in Kavumba on Tuesday.

After going seven league games without victory, the red eagles eventually returned to winning ways defeating Soana 2-1 in Kavumba.

Goals from rejuvenated midfielder Saddam Juma Ibrahim and Noah Ssemakula were enough for Matia Lule to earn his first win as Express coach.

Osman Wejuli pulled one back for Soana but fell on the losing end with Express walking away with maximum points.

Saddam Juma gave Express the lead four minutes after the half hour mark from the spot kick. Saddam was fouled inside the forbidden area but he stepped up to convert the resultant penalty sending goalkeeper Didi Muhammed the wrong way.

However a minute towards the break, Osman Wejuli levelled matters for Soana and the two sides headed back to the tunnels at par.

It was experienced striker Noah Ssemakula who netted the all important goal four minutes after recess for Express to regain the lead and eventually hold on to bag all three points.

URA 2-2 SC Villa

Sports club Villa failed to close gap on league leaders KCCA following a two all draw against Uganda Revenue Authority in a game played at Mehta stadium on Tuesday.

A win against URA would draw SC Villa within just a point behind KCCA who play against Sadolin Paints on Wednesday but Jimmy Kulaba scored late to deny the Jogoos the chance.

Both managers made just one change from the teams that played in the previous games.

Kefa Kisala had Peter Lwasa start for Elkunah Nkuggwa from the side that draw goalless against Bright stars while Ayub Kasaalita was the only change for Shafik Bisaso’s charges from the team that defeated Vipers replacing injured Alex Kitata.

The tax collectors took an early lead through defender Sam Sekitto in the 11th minute however the lead was short lived as Ambrose Kiirya levelled matters four minutes later.

Possession kept oscillating from one side to another but the two teams headed for the mandatory break levelled.

Bisaso made a double substitution after recess introducing Martin Kiiza and AbduMalik Vitalis Tabu for Ayub Kisalita and Paul Mbowa respectively.

The changes produced dividends with exciting winger Martin Kiiza scoring in the 66th minute for SC Villa to take the lead.

However, skipper Jimmy Kulaba levelled matters for URA with nine minutes to play jumping high to head home Peter Lwasa’s cross from a corner kick.

SC Villa remain second on the table with 28 points, three behind KCCA who play Sadolin Paints on Wednesday while URA registered the 10th draw this season and occupy 6th spot on 19 points.

Tuesday presented exciting round of fixtures in the Uganda Premier League with several jubilations and upsets for giants. Match day 14 extends to Wednesday where log leaders KCCA FC travel to Bugembe for a duel with Sadolin Paints FC.

The painters have proved a thorn for the defending champions in the four topflight clashes between the two.

Sadolin, under tactical coach Swamadu Musafiri, clipped KCCA FC in an identical 1-0 victories both home and away in their maiden season in 2014-15. KCCA won the away clash last season but were held at home in the season closure.

The day’s hosts have not lost any of their last eight matches with five draws in between. Their last three at Bugembe collapsed in stalemates.

“The players get a lot of pressure at home than in away ground, but we have a plan in place to arrest the poor trend,” Assistant Coach Musafiri said. “The defensive partnership looks solid so we have been concentrating on the strike force.”

The painters will be boosted by the return of midfielder Dan Ekuyu from the sick bay. Centre back Sajjabi also returns to the team while Desmond Kyobe, Eddie Segane and Nasser Muzamir await late medical test.

The Kasasiros are on an impressive run of five consecutive wins scoring fourteen goals on the way. However their away record is still hot and cold with only two wins over Bright stars and BUL, then identical 2-1 losses to Onduparaka and Vipers. They have won only once at Bugembe in the league.

Prior to the five victories on the bounce, the league leaders had drawn one all against Kirinya in Bugembe.

“We have struggled a bit in Bugembe but according to the past experience we are going to be very tactical and get a win,” KCCA FC assistant Coach Morley Byekwaso noted. “They’re one of the most defensive in the league but we have been scoring goals.”

A win will push the defending champions to six points clear while if it can lift the hosts to seventh in case the result favors the Jinja side.

The European Union has approved € 274.9 million (equivalent to Ugshs 1 trillion) for the Annual Action Plan 2016 for development cooperation with Uganda for a six year period (2014 to 2020). The plan focuses on transport infrastructures, food security and agriculture, as well as good governance.

Eight new projects have been approved under this program which aim to create new job opportunities and long-term sustainable investment, as well as strengthening capacity and accountability of public institutions.

Central among the various projects is the aspect of gender mainstreaming and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Majority of the funding will go to the “Development Initiative for Northern Uganda” project (DINU), to support post-conflict initiatives in the region, focusing on resilience, stability, and poverty eradication through an innovative integrated territorial cross-sectorial approach.

The European Commission’s Director-General for International Cooperation and Development, Stefano Manservis while commenting about the fund said; “This support will support the communities who need it most to build stable and prosperous societies”.

Complementing EU humanitarian aid and the support provided through the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, the project will provide support to host-communities of the increasing flows of refugees coming from the continuing crisis in South Sudan, as part of the EU’s commitment to deliver on the outcomes of the May 2016 World Humanitarian Summit.

Uganda has been lauded in numerous international fora for its hospitable and sustainable approach towards refugees, ranking it the most favorable host country in Africa.

This Action Plan builds on previous support in the three focal sectors of intervention of the European Union in Uganda (transport infrastructure, food security and agriculture and good governance).

The projects provide integrated support to beneficiaries ranging from central to local governments, from civil society organizations to small-holder farmers and local private sector stakeholders.

Overall, the new program will contribute to supporting stability and contribute to sustainable development, improving Public Finance Management and accountability, strengthening the role of civil society, improving service delivery in the transport sector and promoting farming value chains through an environmental and market-oriented approach.

2016 Fufa-Airtel Most Valuable player Muhammad Shaban was accorded a guard of honor by his fellow players prior to Onduparaka tie with Bul FC at the Greenlight.

This came just a day after a grand reception organized by the club and West Nile region football fraternity.

“I take this time to relay my sincere appreciations to all those coaches and players who were part of the initial nominations that put me in the same pot with the country’s finest players of the year,” Shaban told ChimpSport after the game.

“That alone was a dear moment in my life and it gave me hope that I can hit the summits through hardworking.”

“For the fans, I have really run out of words to thank them. They’re the reason the team is successful, the team is the reason i got there. I dedicate the award to every football fan and player in the country.”

However, in an unfortunate event, Shaban was forced out of the game due to some discomfort in his hip following a previous injury.

Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Norman Ogik continued their impressive scoring for their clubs as Sadolin Paints and KCCA FC settled for a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in Bugembe.

Sserunkuma smashed his ninth goal of the season with a bang just ten minutes into play. Ronald Musana had picked a Lukungu’s failed clearance on his right wing and advanced a cross which Nsimbambi set for Sserunkuma to fire in Oringa’s right.

Both teams were cautious in the opening minutes with limited attack and a lot of midfield activity. The defending champions were without their creative attacker Muzamir Mutyaba due to malaria.

Sadolin were forced to make an early change close to the half hour after Bruhan Matovu stretched his thigh muscle and failed to recover. Sijali Jamal was introduced.

The substitute was a revelation to the hosts with clinical runs in the left wing that nearly bore results but Ochan made two spectacular saves towards the end of the half.

Sijali had raced in the right wing and slotted a 40th minute cross for Ogik who made a half turn and riffled a low one but Ochan blocked, kyambadde raced to power in the rebound and again Ochan recovered from the ground to put out for a corner.

The painters returned with the same tempo which resulted into the equaliser three minutes later.

Ogik picked a pass and flicked inwards to dispose his markers and fired below Ochan.

The draw means KCCA FC move to 32 points and therefore will enter the mid-season break on top of the table while Sadolin remain tenth though joint on 17 points with Bright stars and Lweza. They face Onduparaka on Saturday.

BUL FC head coach Frank ‘video’ Anyau has launched a blistering tantrum on centre referee Ali Bakisula who was in charge of his team’s clash with Onduparaka FC in Arua on Tuesday.

According to an audio which ChimpSport is in possession of, Anyau claims that the match officials were very unfair in the decisions made on pitch and were against his team’s success.

“We now know why Onduparaka is very good at home,” Anyau said adding that, “They play with fifteen players and that’s why they are unbeaten at home.”

“They play with eleven team players and three officials. Those referees who go and officiate (in Arua) think that any team that goes to play there is not a Ugandan team. The officiation was very biased and one sided.”

Yunus Sibira fired the self-proclaimed Eastern Giants ahead in the 16th minute but Rashid Toha leveled matters thirteen minutes later.

“Even when the goal was scored, the referee celebrated and that is very bad, sorry to say that! A referee must be neutral when handling team A and same to team B.”

Fufa referee Ali Bakisula was the centre referee running the game while Christopher Kugonza and David Nsubuga were the first and second assistants respectively. Ben Adhole was the fourth official.
