Embattled BUL football club head coach Alex Isabirye is expected to resume duty at the club on Sunday 17th April.

The coach was sent into a forced sick leave on Saturday 19th March just  days after picking a valuable point away to Bright Stars and completing a double over KCCA FC.

The news of Isabirye’s return was mentioned by his assistant coach David Kiwanuka immediately after the team’s 1-0 win over Sumba FC.

“I will return to the team either on Saturday or Sunday,” Isabirye confirmed the news to Chimp Sport adding that, “The team has not been performing well of late but I will assess the players (from the stands) on Friday when they play against Vipers SC. That will determine how I will handle them in preparation for the remaining games.”

Assistant coach Kiwanuka and trainer Hussein Kato  have been handling the team in Isabirye’s absence and have licked only two wins in the five matches in charge.

They have managed to defeat Express FC (2-0) and Simba (1-0) both at home while losing against Police (3-2) at Kakindu, Soana (5-2) and lately 1-0 in the derby with Sadolin Paints FC.

“I was really not impressed with the leave but I am a professional coach and respect ranks and systems setup. I was sick at the beginning of the season but I managed to work. This time I fractured my leg but I was able to move and carry out my duties but the management decided otherwise.” Isabirye was suspended by club chairman Mr. silver Alias and general secretary Salmin.

Goalkeepers coach Bright Dhaira is also out of the team after losing his son a few weeks ago.

Isabirye’s immediate assignment will be against his former employers URA FC who are handled by Kefa Kisala- also an immediate former head coach at BUL.

Team skipper Dennis Okot led by example with a stunner in the last minute of first half from a quick counter attack. JMC had earlier camped in KCCA’s third but Richard Wandyaka’s shot towards the goal was blocked by Sakka Mpiima.

MISR Students Open Up on Prof. Mamdani’s ‘Oppressive Reign’

Students at the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) on Monday joined Dr. Stella Nyanzi in demonstration against what they termed as oppression and reign of threat imposed by the Institute’s head Prof. Mahmood Mamdani.

The group of students told the press that Prof. Mamdani’s actions have in the past led several of their colleagues to lose scholarships and others getting low grades that don’t match with their performance.

Sabatho Nyamsenda a third year PhD student at MISR while speaking to Chimpreports revealed that students who have come out to oppose the administration have been intimidated or suffered unnecessary repercussions.

“Some of the students have not been given supervisors for their thesis and others lost scholarships in very dubious ways. The institute lacks structures and policies have been changed eventually raising minimum points.”

Nyamsenda added that students previously had representation on the Academic Board of MISR but their slots have since scrapped.

Bernard Bacha lost a scholarship due to his firm stand against the way affairs were being run while he was a Sports and Entertainment leader.

“When I lost the scholarship, I appealed through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for a review process but it was ignored. As a result I was evicted from my room of residence. This protest isn’t about just Dr. Nyanzi but students too,” Bacha told journalists

Among other concerns by students is the wide scale exodus of the teaching staff at MISR and the mass recruitment of new instructors who lack background to the issues affecting the institute. Students claim that this has affected their efforts to challenge the status quo.

Noosim Naimasiah, a fifth year PhD student at MISR

Noosim Naimasiah, a fifth year PhD student at MISR

She attests to the fact that most students enrolled at the Institute drawing inspiration from Prof. Mamdani’s works and his unwavering position against political oppression.

“However, he has since changed. He’s no longer the Mamdani that advocated for justice for all. He reigns with fear and everybody now is scared of being victimized,” Naimasiah explained to journalists.

While on the surface, the weeklong MISR controversy appears to be majorly tied on Dr. Stella Nyanzi and her senior, Prof. Mamdani, the concerns raised by students point to a broader possible problem. An institutional breakdown where there’s seemingly persisted absence of a hierarchy of administration.

Our efforts to reach Prof. Mamdani both physically and on phone were fruitless.

The university Vice Chancellor on Monday in response to the issue said a committee was to be formed to investigate into the issues surrounding MISR.

Bul FC headcoach Alex Isabirye returned from suspension with a bang helping his team to overcome a hard fighting URA Football club in a soggy match that was played in Jinja on Tuesday afternoon.

The 1-0 victory was the first ever for the Fortune cooking oil manufacturers over the tax collectors after nine previous failed attempts.

Youngster, Militon Kalisa was responsible for the winner from the spot in the 27th minute.

Bul had earlier on initiated a series of rapid attacks that URA failed to clear off their half which Umar Mukobe pounced on and swung in one of his trademark crosses from the right.

Centre back Sam Senkoomi clumsily brushed the oncoming cross onto Hakim Magombe’s path who cut in and chipped in for Kalisa but Joseph Othieno pulled the striker down just near the match Official leading to a penalty.

Kalisa sent the ball to the top right sending Sulait Luyima the opposite way.

The match entered halftime with heavy downpour threatening to stop the game but however the match official Mr. Ocom decided to continue with the game.

Second half was a dull, muddy affair that distracted the flow of the ball.

Afcon U20: Kenya disqualified for using overage players

The Kenya national under 20 team has been disqualified from the ongoing African Cup of Nations qualifiers for fielding ineligible players during the first-leg of the preliminary round away to Sudan in Khartoum.

The Kenyans picked a play a point in Omdurman a fortnight ago after a one all draw but the Sudanese team played the match under protest.

Later, the Sudan FA wrote to CAF complaining that Kenya fielded five players born in 1996 while the competition rules stipulated only players born on or after January 1st 1997 were allowed to play.

“Our appeal was successful and has received communication from CAF that Kenya has been disqualified and therefore Sudan progress to the next round. As a federation and country, We are happy with the decision,” Sudan’s Oussama Elmanaan revealed the news to the media.

The Kenya FA has opted not to appeal the decision even though they distance themselves from age-cheating claiming that the match commissioner had given the team a go-ahead to use players born in 1996.

“In its defence, Kenya’s football governing body – FKF – had demonstrated its proactive efforts requesting for the updated information from several officials at the governing body. In addition to the endeavor to seek updated regulations, the head of the Kenya delegation during the away match, sought the match commissioner’s guidance on the same. The match commissioner ruled that players born in 1996 were eligible to play hence the continuation of the match,” part of the statement from the Kenya FA reads.

The governing body did not find any weight in the excuse and noted that despite the mistake in communication from the Match commissioner, it was the responsibilities of its member federations to strictly adhere to CAF statutes and directives.

Sudan will face the winner between Burundi and Nigeria for a chance to appear in the finals to be held in Zambia early next year.

Looks like woes at Jinja based Bul football club are not anywhere near to end after Chimp Sport exclusively learning that three of the senior players at the club have been fired by the club management due to indiscipline.

The club management had earlier pushed their head coach Alex Isabirye into forced sick leave for a full month where he resumed duty on Sunday.

“The club chairman (Mr. Alias Silva) and Salmin (secretary) sacked three players; Farouk Osama, James Kasibante and Kawooya at the end of last week even though they have not yet announced,” a reliable source around BUL circles confided to this website.

Our source further revealed that the three players were suspended after it was found that they went out on a partying spree.

However, the Bul media officer Mr. Joseph Mutaka declined to comment on the matter arguing that he had not received any official information from any of his bosses.

At the end of last  season, the Jinja side fired their captains crespo Asiku (Soana) and Herbert Kakande (Kenya) together with Asuman Bajjampola (JMC) for alleged witchcraft. The team further went on to sign over fifteen new players.

“Salmin (secretary) is blamed for all this instabilities in the team. Everyone fears him and from the look of things coach Alex (Isabirye) is likely to leave the club because it’s really a tough job,” the source added.

Coach Alex also declined to comment anything relating to the matter saying that,”I just returned this week and am still settling to see the team finish in a respectable position. Iam happy with the win I got today (Tuesday).that’s all.”

Some sections of fans were spotted confronting the the secretary (Salmin) in the last two home games and others hurling insults to him throughout the match.
