2015 Uganda Cup champions Sports Club Villa on Wednesday evening bowed out of this year’s CAF confederations cup on 7-1 aggregate loss despite defeating Moroccan giants FUS Rabat in their  second leg tie at the Mandela national stadium in Kampala.

The Moroccans who had fielded  their  second string team with seven players who featured in the first leg remaining home went on to lose one nil  but the win was not enough to stop them from qualifying to the next round.

A Morocan defender protects the ball

The missing players included Mehdi El Bassel, Abderrahmane El Houassli, Mourad Batna, Mohamed Nahiri, Nabil Baha and Abdessalam Benjelloun.

However, the Jogoos who begun the match with a seven goal deficit showed character and intent to match up their opponents and possibly getting a decent result.

Right winger Godfrey Lwesibawa crafted the first closest attempt in the match at 15th minute mark  with a quick counter attack up his flank before releasing a pin point cross for Umar Kasumba to head in but the striker was slow to jump putting it wide.

The visitors retaliated immediately with a long ball outside the Villa box, then followed a one two between Zakaria  Hajjuwa and Moustapha Konde before setting up Nayef Aguard but his stunning direct shot was acrobatically kept off by Sebwato.

Martin Kiiza had a another chance to pull one for the hosts just before the break after getting to the end of Jonathan Mugabi’s long clearance but his loop in a one on one with Rabat’s keeper was awful flying away from destination.

Kasumba put Villa in the lead just eleven minutes after restart from the spot. Miso Katende had earlier been brought down in the box.

FUS Rabat  now progress to the final round of qualifiers before the group stages.

Bottom placed sides Maroon FC, SC Victoria university and Simba FC’s survival fights suffered another rude shock after all the three were defeated on Friday evening in the only games played in the Azam Uganda Premier league.

SC Victoria were 3-0 losers at home in Namboole at the hands of Kawempe based Bright stars FC. Anthony Bongole, Bruhan Matovu  and Joshua Kawadwa were all on target in the rout.

The victory brings relief to the stars who were on a four winless streak. They remain 10th on the table with 34 points with three games left on their schedule.

In Luzira,  it was another routine loss to prisons side Maroons FC who now wait for the greatest miracle to happen if they are to remain in the topflight. They lost 2-1 to Express FC.

Sensational Uganda Cranes star,  Farouk Miya opened his goal account at his new club Standard Liege with a 31st minute stunning volley against Pro league side Mouscron-Peruwelz on Friday evening at Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

Miya’s nonstop strike from a corner restored  parity for the coach Yannick Ferrera’s side after Filip Markovic had put the visitors  ahead just six minutes into the game.

The goal was the first official for Uganda kobs captain since making a $400,000 transfer early in February. He was also given his maiden appearance in the starting team even though he only lasted an hour before giving way to Eyong Enoh.

Zaake Luboyera struck in both halves to ensure Uganda U- 20 overcame  Rwanda’s  Junior Wasps 2-1 in a tightly contested return leg played at the Mandela national stadium on Saturday.

The visitors caused an early scare just five minutes into the game when Abbedy Birahamire pounced on a loose ball after a miscommunication between Emmanuel Olinga and Halid Lwalirwa failed to clear off an oncoming cross.  Abbedy paced ahead and sent in a stunning drive past Ahebwa but could only rattle the crossbar.

The Hippos retaliated with a quick counter on Hassan Musana’s wing which snaked through to Luboyera and finally landed on Lubega but was fouled before turning into the box.

Luboyera’s resultant free-kick flew past the three man wall just to lick the upper right apex.

Biramahire put the Wasps ahead on the 18th minute mark with a clinical brush to beat Ahebwa who was too slow to reach along ball into his box.

Uganda restarted the ball and immediately equalized through Luboyera to end the first half at even.

Edrisa lubega had another chance to double the lead nine minutes after restart but his to be loop was handled in the box prompting Kenyan centre referee Israel Mpiima to point to the spot. Luboyera then sent Nzeyurwanda to the opposite side.

The Hippos who went  through on a  3-2 aggregate from the one all draw in first leg,  will now face Egypt in the second round with the  first leg is scheduled to be played between  20–22 May  in Kampala while the return leg slated for 10–12 June 2016 in Cairo.

2015 Uganda cup runners up, KCCA FC will bank on the huge support from their Kawempe fans club to go and cheer the team at CS Matugga when they take their cup campaign on Sunday.

The city lads have already done a double over the Kawempe based side this season including a 2-1 win recently in a chaotic clash in at Matugga that saw first choice keeper Mathias Kigonya suspended for inciting violence.

Bright Stars are still without their headcoach Fred Kajoba who is still on sick leave. The team thrashed SCVU 3-0 away in Namboole during a league game last Friday with goals from Anthony Bongole, Joshua Kawadwa and Bruhan Matovu.

“We know how to tame KCCA FC but need to be fully focused as small details have denied us wins against the runners up last season in the Uganda cup,” former KCCA FC player now a Senior striker at Bright Stars, Anthony Bongole told club media.

KCCA FC have picked five wins in the six meetings between the two and a draw but the former striker believes the trend can be overturned in the cup today

“We have never played KCCA in the Uganda cup. So it will be a different ball game for us. We are dedicating this match to our head coach Fred Kajoba who has been missing due to illness.”

There are no major injury concerns  for the hosts but their visitors will be without six players; Godfrey Ssembatya, Lawrence Kasadha, Hassan Wasswa Dazo, Timothy Awany, Martin Mpuga and youngster Ronald Kikonyogo.

“We know that it is difficult to play our passing game at Mwererwe but we are not going to relent on our attacking plans,” KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi said.

The rules of the game dictate extra time of thirty minutes to be played in case the match fails to produce an outright winner in normal time.  If the stalemate prevails then Penalty shoot outs are taken.

With the league title still hanging in balance, defending champions Vipers SC may have to plant their hopes to the Uganda cup to broaden their chances of a silverware this season.

The team put up a brilliant performance away in Hoima last week against Airtel Kitara where they trounced the hosts 4-1 with a double from Erisa Sekisambu, Allan Kyambadde and Keziron Kizito.

They host Big League side Hope Doves in Kitende today in one of the three quarter finals clash set for Sunday.  Hope Doves coach Asaph Tumwebaze is upbeat his squad can accomplish the tricky mission.

“It’s always a bigger challenge when you play away from home especially in a knock out tournament like the Uganda cup. Playing at home always gives you that confidence which is an advantage. Nevertheless we shall prepare adequately for the game,” coach Asaph told Chimp Sport after the draws.

In the other quarter final game, former topflight club Entebbe FC will travel to Wankulukuku to take on Lweza FC without their headcoach Makumbi who has since gone missing.

Pending round of 16.
Defending champions SC Villa will host Onduparaka FC in a pending round of sixteen clash.  The winner will play Busia Fisheries in the last eight stage.

In Buikwe, Vipers SC overcame a resilient Hope Doves to book the semifinal berth and keep hopes of a silverware alive. Sekisambu continued with his goal scoring exploits with both goals in both halves.

The reigning Uganda cup MVP opened the scoring in the 38th minute connecting in Keziron Kizito’s feeble cross to give the league defending champions a lead to the break.

Sekisambu finished the business just at the restart of the second half with another simple of brushes from Mike Mutyaba’s free kick.

After losing to Bul FC 1-0 in the league last time out,  defending champions Vipers SC have gone on to win two consecutive Uganda cup matches against Airtel Kitara(4-1) and 2nd division side Hope Doves (2-0) respectively.

In both games, star striker Erisa Sekisambu went on to score four goals in the process.  The striker’s prowess will be much needed on Tuesday to beef up attack when the team host relegation bound SC Victoria university.

The two last played out 2-1 in favor of the Buikwe side which got through Farouk Miya and a Deus Bukenya long range stunner.

Many pundits have already relegated Prisons side Maroons football club to the lower division- the Fufa Big League even though it’s not yet confirmed mathematically but however that status could be officially confirmed on Tuesday in case the team fails to pick maximum points away to Soana FC.

The prisons side travel to a team that has not lost any of their competitive games at home this year and infact Soana have won four of the last five games at Kavumba.

The matter is complicated by the fact that Maroons are the only team that has not won a single away match in the entire division.

The two have met only four times; twice in buildup friendlies and in the first round of the league where Okello directed in an own goal to gift Soana a victory.

Coach Charles Ayieko has warned his players to put up better performance in the remaining games or face the axe at the end of the season.

“I will not field anyone who is not fit to play even if he is the owner of the team, ” he stated in his pre-match view.

In that case, team captain Hamis Kitagenda has been left out of the squad for below per show.

Godfrey Simbwa, Isa Mubiru and keeper Didi Muhammad have all been rested and have been replaced by Eddy Ruhweza,  samuel Oguttu and Godfrey Wakabu in goal. Willy Kavume and Siraje Sentume are also out due to injury.

Maroons are without first keeper Jamal Malyamungu who is on suspension, defender Solomon Emol (knee) and Sydney Kika who suffered a concussion against Sadolin a fortnight ago.  Second keeper Emmanuel Akol has also been relegated for a poor show and will be replaced by Umar Babu.

AUPL: Cops Halt Sadolin Unbeaten Run

Sadolin Paints FC’s roller coaster ride that has seen the team run seven games unbeaten came to a sudden halt on Tuesday 26th after falling 1-0 to Uganda Police at Bugembe.

Joseph Ssentume headed in the only goal of the match at the turn of the hour.

Both sides opted for cautious play from the beginning to avoid conceding early.

However, Police were the first to make a serious attempt in the 23rd minute when Richard Kimera overlapped down the right wing before sending an in swinger for Nyanzi to head past Muwanga from medium range only to be denied by the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.

Oryek and Segujja had their subsequent attacks denied by Sam Kivumbi in Simba goal.

A moment of confusion made the match commissioner to momentarily halt the match for about seven minutes to order one of the crazy home fans to drive away his sports car which he was speedily driving around the perimeter walls.

The game was then resumed on a low tempo but ended goalless at half time.

On resumption Allan Oryek and Nazil Serwadda made a good quick counter attack through the left flank before switching to Nasser Muzamir outside the box.  Nasser smashed the ball but Kivumbi’s flexibility kept the ball off for a corner.

Ssemwogerere stepped up for the corner sinking it deep inside goal area where Segujja chested down for Defame to shoot but again rattled the crossbar and out.

Sentume’s chance came in the 60th minute when he met Osman Mutumba’s well curved corner and headed to the far post to break Sadolin’s over 700 minutes clean sheet run.

The goal is Sentume’s second in the league this season after striking the first against Simba in the first round.

Police jump to fifth with 41 points with only three games remaining while the painters remain stuck on eighth.

AUPL: Sekisambu’s Master Class Over SCVU Draws Vipers Near to Title

At the beginning of the season, league champions Vipers SC raided SC Villa for the 2015 Uganda cup most prized asset, Erisa Sekisambu. The aim was to get one person to fit in Farouk Miya’s shoes who would soon leave for greener pastures.

The signing is now paying dividends after the striker hit a memorable hattrick to lift the defending champions to a 4-0 win over relegation bound SC Victoria University and edge closer to defending their title.

Sekisambu ushered the onslaught just after five minutes of play connecting in Mike Mutyaba’s cross past Ramathan Male in SC Victoria’s goal.

The striker added salt to Victoria’s wounds with his second in the 62nd minute off Wadada’s assist just ten minutes before Mike Mutyaba made it 3-0.

Sekisambu finished the business with another great strike over the keeper from Musa Malinda’s cross.

Sad note.
Early in the 52nd minute, the Victoria side suffered a huge setback when first choice keeper Ramadhan Male fractured his leg after a terrible collision with Vipers midfielder Sulaiman ‘Mike’ Mutyaba.

The victory therefore means that should the defending champions get a result against KCCA FC on Friday and then win their remaining games, they can go ahead and retain the title.

On the other side, SC Victoria could confirm their relegation if they drop any single point from their three remaining games or if Saints and Simba don’t cross the 28 points mark.

KCCA FC’s hopes of winning a double this season will depend largely on how the team will fare in their upcoming games against Vipers SC.

This is after the two giants were paired to face each other in the two-legged semi final of the 2016 Uganda cup following the draws held on Wednesday morning at the Fufa house in Mengo.

The Uganda cup semi finals are played on a two-leg basis, home and away. In this case, KCCA FC will host the first leg at Nakivubo any day from Friday 20th May and a return leg a week later.

To reach this stage, KCCA eliminated Bright stars by 1-0 while Vipers thrashed Airtel Kitara 4-1 before overcoming Hope Doves 2-0 both in the same week.

In the other semi final draw, Entebbe FC will host the overall winner among Onduparaka, Busia Fisheries and Soana.

Onduparaka ejected defending champions SC Villa on Saturday to book a date with fellow second division club Busia Fisheries in the round of 16.

The aggregate winner plays host to top flight side Soana FC and the winner proceeds to face Entebbe for a chance to book space in the finals.

The Uganda cup final is scheduled for Saturday 18th June and will be hosted by Buganda region at a yet to be named venue.

The winner of the competition gets a chance to represent the country in the consequent Caf confederations cup competition.
