World Embrace, a Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on “Unity” has invested more than Shs12 million on renovating Gulu’s Basketball Courts at Kaunda Grounds.
Based in Gulu, the organization has also pledged to donate Shs35 million for the renovation of Pece War Memorial Stadium that will host the East African Secondary School Games this upcoming August.
World Embrace whose vision is “to see the nations transformed through followers of Jesus passionately committed to loving God, embracing each other in unity and together meeting the needs of their communities” is headed by Reynold Mainse as the President.
“As a Christ centered organization, we seek to do the will of God. God wants all believers to be His feet and hands extended to our family and communities and bring about positive transformation in the lives of those we touch,” said Mainse.
All World Embrace, community outreaches are called “W.E. Love Gulu”. These outreaches invite and involve many Christians from different Christ centered churches that come together and show the love of Christ Jesus in very practical ways.
Some of the W.E. Love Gulu outreach programs include; hospital Ministry, supporting children at Gulu Remand Home, fixing bore holes and producing a radio program on Ruping called Dwon-Achill.
The organisation is passionate about connecting with and serving our young people. Getting involved in renovating the Basketball Courts and contributing towards renovating Pece War Memorial Stadium is timely for Gulu.
Gulu Municipality has been cleared to host the 2017 East African Secondary School Games this August.
According to Justus Mugisha, the President of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA), Gulu Municipality was picked because of passion for sports and the potential for excellent facilities.
FEASSA secretary general David Ngugi said they had settled on Gulu, Uganda to give Tanzania schools sports body more time to put their house in order.
Ngugi also said, “Gulu in Uganda will host the games to allow the students of the regions to sample different towns of the regions.”
St Joseph College, Layibi and Sacred Heart Girls Schools will host the championship, while Pece Stadium and Kaunda Grounds shall host the games among the other facilities.
Layibi College will also host swimming championship and the construction of a 25meter Pool is going on and it’s expected to be finished in July 2017.
Some of the sports that will be competed in will be Athletics, Football, Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Handball, Hockey, Volleyball and swimming. Some of the indoor sports and activities will be Chess and Badminton.
Other Uganda towns, which have hosted the games in the past, include Kampala, Mbarara, Fort Portal and Lira.
This is a great sporting opportunity for Gulu. After the two-decade conflict, this international event will help in rebranding Gulu and the money coming in will also stimulate the economy.
