Caf Player of The Year: Onyango Makes Final Three-Man List

Cranes assistant skipper Dennis Onyango has been named in the 2016 CAF Player of the year (based in Africa) three man shortlist.

The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper  is up against Zimbabwean teammate Kharma Billiat who helped his country qualify for the 2017 Africa cup of nations. The duo guided their club to their maiden continental glory.

2016 CAF Confederation winner and top scorer Rainford Kalaba from Zambia completes the list while Bafana Bafana Keegan Dolly and Hlompho Kekana drop out of the roster.

Reigning CAF Player of the year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Senegalese Winger Sadio Mané and Algeria Winger Riyad Mahrez and make the final list for the Player of the year (overall). Algeria’s Islam Slimani and Mohamed Salah from Egypt failed to make the final cut.

The list was pared down after tallying votes from Head Coaches/ Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, Media Committee, Technical & Football committee and a panel of Media Experts.

The winners will be unveiled at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala on Thursday, 5 January 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.
