New Bright Stars target man Nelson Ssenkatuka opened his scoring account with an equaliser at Kavumba Recreation Ground as Bright Stars drew one all against hosts Soana FC.
Speaking after the match, the former Proline FC player said: “Good enough the goal has come early in the second game of the season and hopefully I can go on with the scoring run.”
Adding: “Every point is crucial right now as you saw recently where the teams drew, so we will take it and move on to the next game.”
Last season, Ssenkatuka scored 11 goals as Proline FC finished 8th in the Azam Uganda Premier League.
“I think I could have scored more goals with Proline last season. “But now I’m focused and my target is now 15 goals which I think is good enough to compete for the boot this season.”
Last season’s top scorer Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored 21 goals before he looked for greener pastures in Buildcon FC, a club in the Zambian Premier League, leaving the race for the golden boot this season wide open, Ssenkatuka is one of the contenders.
Bright Stars coach Moses Basena this season named Ssenkatuka as the new Club captain, but many expected that the arm band would have been given to the experienced Goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge.
Besides high school, Ssenkatuka has only captained Hope Doves but the new skipper is not bothered by the new ‘burden’:
“The players believe in me and we are working together to make the season good for our fans and managers,” said Ssenkatuka.
“The Coach wants me to lead the team from the front, their problems last season were goals and now he has given me the responsibility to score goals and hopefully I can reach to their expectations as a captain.”
