Uganda Cranes midfield maestro, Tony Mawejje scored his first goal in his first league game for his new Club FK Tirana.
Mawejje launched a long range shot deep in the second half that went direct into the goal before going into wild celebrations with his teammates amidst loud cheers from the affectionate club fans.
The lone goal was just enough as Tirana edged Iliria Fushë-Krujë in a 1st division game played at Stadium Selman Stërmasi in Tirana to collect the whole 3 points.
This was the first league game this season for FK Tirana as they try to embark on a promotion challenge back to the top division, following their relegation last season.
It should be noted that Mawejje earlier featured for Tirana as they defeated Kukësi FC 1-0 to clinch the Country’s Super Cup on Wednesday, September 9th.
The former Masaka local council player has played for various clubs like KCCA FC, Police FC, URA FC before going abroad where he featured for IBV Vestmanjar (Iceland), Golden Arrows (South Africa), Haugesand (Norway), Valur (Iceland), Throttur (Iceland).
It should be noted that fellow countryman, Yunus Ssentamu also plies his trade with FK Tirana and he played this game.
Mawejje and Ssentamu will return in action for Tirana FK on Saturday, September 23rd in an away league trip to Pogradeci FC.
