The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled a new tournament that will be played amongst the different football provinces in Uganda.
The new tournament that was passed in the FUFA Annual General Meeting in Masindi in August this year will replace the Fufa regional tournament that was phased out in 2013.
While launching the new competition at FUFA house in Mengo, Fufa President Eng. Moses Magogo indicated the tournament will help in tapping more talents.
“We have had this idea for over a year and made the necessary research. We believe this tournament will reach out to every corner of the country hence providing a platform to players,” he said.
The tournament has been named “THE FUFA DRUM” to symbolise a cultural music instrument that is popularly used in the country.
“I believe the drum is used in almost every part of the country and we thought this would be a unifying symbol for the championship,” Magogo noted.
The tournament will attract a total of 16 provinces and will be played on an annual basis running between January and October.
For a player to be eligible to feature in the tournament, he ought to have been born in the province he play for or has lived there for a period of 10 years.
Only CAF C licensed coaches will be allowed to manage the provinces — with FUFA providing accommodation, transport, prizes for winners and referees.
The inaugural tournament will start next year in January with the official launch expected to take part in Kasese.
Seeding of teams in groups of four gas already been done with group draws only awaiting.
