The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo has finally given response about not receiving a medal at the recently concluded independence celebrations.

While addressing the media at FUFA headquarters in Mengo during the weekly press conference, Magogo said the medals do not matter at the moment but the achievements they have attained is what is important to Ugandans.

“I do not think medals are the priority at the moment and it entirely depends on whoever is giving them out.” He said.

“As a federation, we think results and development of football is quite more important,” added Magogo.

The Fufa boss however said it is okay for the government to appreciate the team.

“I have no objection about giving out medals and celebrating the success we have achieved. Let them give them out. Even us as a federation, we have the FUFA awards,” he stated.

Quizzed about why there was no representative or player from the federation in Luuka where the independence celebrations were held, Magogo claimed the team had just returned from Ghana.

“It is not true that we shunned the celebrations, but the players who achieved the success were just returning from Ghana,”

The government awarded golden jubilee medals to current and former Uganda cranes players and officials during the Independence celebrations in Luuka District on Sunday including the former FUFA president Lawrance Mulindwa but Magogo was not awarded.

“The club will work tirelessly to eradicate such incidents and anyone involved in the crowd trouble will be dealt with decisively.”

The champions also claim that it is the home fans who raided the pitch after the game and confronted their technical bench before Police swung into action.

“Home fans invaded the pitch and assaulted our players, officials and fans. The club restrained and protected its players officials and fans to ensure safety prevailed,” the statement adds.

The match ended one all reducing the table leaders gap with the chasing pack to just a single point.

Magogo: Uganda Cranes Recent Success is Not Accidental

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Engineer Moses Magogo  has come out to indicate the recent success achieved by the national football team (Uganda Cranes) has been out of proper planning rather than accidental.

Magogo while addressing the media on Wednesday at FUFA headquarters in Mengo noted that the success of the cranes is a result of eight core points that the Federation and other stake holders looked at and implemented.

“The recent success we are talking about has not been accidental but it is out of commitment and proper planning that finally we have started to bear fruits,” Magogo said.

“It is only Uganda in the whole COSAFA and CECAFA regions that has qualified for African Cup of Nations finals and still playing in the World cup qualifiers,” he further stressed.

“I remember, we had a football symposium where we hinted out on key indicators and it’s from some of those that we have been able to see progress in the recent past,” Magogo added.

Magogo however put emphasis on resources and stressed that without proper and coordinated funding, the national team cannot operate smoothly.

“We have operated on a small budget but because we sat and set priorities, we looked at the key areas that would help the team,” he said.

“Transporting these players from wherever they are playing is not cheap, facilitating them and making sure they are happy and settled in camp doesn’t come cheap.”

“However, every time we have received financial support from His Excellency, we have yielded good results. The chartered flights we have got have been important. Therefore we think if the resources were adequate and the funding was regular, probably we would not wait for 38 years to qualify,” he added.

The other factors that the FUFA President talked about included the role of media, the playing stuff, government support, coaches, sponsors, the domestic league that has been wrangle free in the previous two campaigns and internal organisation within FUFA.

Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ has cautioned his team ahead of the second world cup group E qualifier against Congo in Namboole.

The Cranes picked a point in the opening game which was against Ghana’s Black Stars away in Tamale city but the Serbian born coach warns his players of self-assurance before the game.

“I believe we picked a vital point in Tamale but we should avoid being complacent,” Micho told journalist during a press conference. “We shouldn’t undermine Congo Brazzaville because they have a good and talented team and a tactical coach in (Pierre) Lechantre.”

Lechantre joined the Red Devils early this year after Claude Le Roy opted not to extend his two year stay in Brazzaville.

“The foundation built by Claude Le Roy while still head coach has made them a strong side. They are physical and tall so we should not undermine them.”

Michob reminded that the nation failed to qualify for last year’s Afcon finals due to complacency after the Cranes failed to beat a dogged Togo home and away after an impressive draw away in Ghana.

“Ugandans have a tendency of getting excited over results. When we beat drew against Ghana 1-1 in Accra, everyone undermined Togo and they went ahead to beat us in Namboole.

Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi are through to the semifinals of the 2016 University Football league following an entertaining two all draw in Mukono against UCU on Thursday afternoon…

The Nkozi side qualified thanks to a superior away goal advantage after a 3-3 aggregate from both legs. The fixture had produced a 1-1 result over a fortnight ago at home.

Jacob Owora raised the visitors hopes as early at the quarter hour mark striking in from Douglas Owori’s work.

The opener piled the pressure on the hosts who needed at least a goal to level matters and their efforts paid just ten minutes later when Joshua Kirathe fired a low one into the net after UMU’s defense clumsily failed to clear off the ball.

UCU stepped up their bid with progressive speedy attacks in intervals which the visitors gave in just four minutes to the break when the defenders fouled Joshua Aziku inside the area leading to a penalty.

Joshua Kigozi buried the goal to give coach Jackson Nyiima an aggregate lead into the break.

Coach Stephen Bogere returned with a different plan which eventually materialized at the hour switch through Douglas Owora.

UMU has now reached their second semifinals in a row. They edged the same opposition 3-2 on aggregate in the same stage last year.

They will now await the winner between Makererere and Kyambogo university on Friday at Luzira stadium.

Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku

Sun City picked yet another surprise win after defeating Hope Doves in a Fufa Big League game played at Muteesa II stadium, Wankuluku on Thursday.

A brace from centre forward Newton Ssekasi made sure the Kasese based club bagged all three points despite Hope Doves pulling one back through.

There was a scary moment for the Ian Mutenda coached side as Remex Tumwebaze was stretched off after breaking his leg in aerial challenge.

The home side regrouped and pushed for a leveller. It was defender who Ibrahim Nsubuga who brushed in Alex Mitala’a free kick with eleven minutes to time.

With the game heading to climax, individual brilliance from Ssekasi stunned the home side when he dribbled past Edgar Muguni before slotting the back past goalkeeper Medi Kateregga.

Both teams are coming from a one all draw picked in their match day eight encounters against BUL FC and Kirinya Jinja SS respectively.

Police were on course for their second win of the season after Rahmat Senfuka’s third minute strike at Kakindu but the striker was wasteful in front of goal in the remaining period which allowed BUL to come back and pick a point through Hamid Tibita’s 47th minute goal.

The Policemen will be without star striker Ben Ocen who was sent off in the 79th minute after a second bookable offence. They currently lie second last on the log with six points from a win and three draws.

“The league is still on and I can’t predict the future but all I know is we are going to concentrate on our future games and for wins. Everyone concentrates on his games and takes one at a time,” Timber said.

Both teams have won two and drawn one of their last five meetings at Magumba while Express has picked eight out of the fifteen points between the two in their previous meetings with Police picking only five.

Express FC have lost and drawn their two previous fixtures against KCCA FC (3-1) and the one all draw with Kirinya where it had to take Bob Kasozi’s late strike to salvage a point but coach Bossa is not shaken and is going for an outright win on Friday.

“Our aim is to go for an early goal and win the match. We shall miss four of our players due to injury but the team has enough cover to fill the void. We aim for the trophy and should therefore win such games whether its home or away,” Coach Bossa remarked.

Jinja Municipal Council lie bottom of the Uganda premier league table with only two points after eight outings and are hosting high flying Soana FC on Saturday in one of the games lined for match day nine.

Lutaalo however notes that hr was still studying the players and is now ready for a ‘new welcome’ as he faces Sam Simbwa tomorrow.

“I realized they have been scoring goals but conceding as well so my training was centered more on compatibility and team work,”Lutaalo told Chimpsport.

The last time the two clubs met at Kakindu, Richard Wandyaka fired in four goals and became the only player to achieve such a fete in the whole season. The former captain has since moved to tax collectors URA FC and former Soana coach Charles Ayiekoh left for lower tier side Nyamityobora FC.

Makerere University qualified into the semifinals of the fifth edition of the University Football League on Friday afternoon after playing to a nil all draw with Kyambogo in their return leg quarter final game.

It was a rather dull and mind-numbing game at the Maroons stadium that saw both teams look shy towards the goal with the Ivory Tower team creating more chances in a match watched by Luzira prisons officers and team officials.

However, despite the stalemate, Makerere sailed through to the semifinals on a 2-0 aggregate thanks to Joshua Lubwama’s first leg brace.

Speaking to ChimpSport shortly after the game, Makerere university tactician Douglas Bamweyana said they would now train hard for the semifinal game.

“We tried to nullify everything they did but that is for the past. We are now returning to the drawing board to prepare for stubborn teams like they (Kyambogo) were as we play in the semifinals,” Bamweyana told this website.

Makerere now join Uganda Martyrs University who eased to the semifinals after   eliminating Mukono based Uganda Christian University on Thursday in another quarterfinal game of the University Football League.

In other quarterfinal games, Entebbe based Nkumba University will host Gulu whereas Kampala university will host Busitema, all games to be played next week.

Police FC have have staged two remarkable comebacks to earn an important point at home against Express FC in a highly entertaining end to end six goal thriller at Kavumba stadium on Friday.

Allan Kyambadde’s fifth minute strike put the Red Eagles in the control mode but Osman Mutumba spoilt the Reds mood in the 43rd to with his strike that restored the balance into the breather.

Coach Waswa Bossa was prompted to make an early double change at the start of the second period pulling off his captain Suleiman Mutyaba and defensive midfielder Derrick Tekwo for Saddam Juma and Simon Sserunkuma.

Police were unfazed by the new introductions and piled more pressure in the opponents goal with their effort yielding five minutes laterafter Rahmat Senfuka pulled off a stunning strike from outside the area to put the law enforcers in the lead for the first time.

The Eagles rallied back after restarting the ball with substitute Simon Sserunkuma equalizing just a minute later. Sserunkuma turned provider 15 minutes later with a well taken curve that found Allan Kyambadde in the right place for a header.

The visitors were forced to finish the game with nine men after Musa Mukasa was given match orders with only eight minutes remaining on the clock.

AUPL: We Lacked Discipline in Defence – Wasswa

$

Express coach Wasswa Bossa has bemoaned the defensive woes that the team showed in the 3-3 draw against Police in Kavumba on Friday.

Bossa said their defense looked lackluster, conceding simple and cheap goals that would be avoided.

” It hurts to see that we scored three goals today but we failed to get maximum points. I think we were poor especially in defence allowing them (Police) to score at ease,” said Bossa.

” We got an early lead and kept pushing them but then failed to keep discipline in defence. Even when we went 3-2 up,we failed to keep shape at the back,” he added.

Bossa also believes the red card given  to defender Musa Mukasa in the 82nd minute was also a turning point.

” It was a  poor decision for him(Mukasa) to retaliate. In one way or another, that also denied us maximum points because when he went off, Police got more space to attack and they punished us,” Bossa explained.

However, the red eagles coach is confident and hopeful, the mistakes will be ironed out.

“We need to bounce back very soon, so we shall go back and rectify the mistakes we made today,” Bossa said.

Allan Kyambadde gave Express the lead in the 5th minute before Osman Mutumba’s well curled strike leveled matters with two minutes to halftime.

Rahmat Ssenfuka put the hosts ahead in the 49th minute with a stunner but second half substitute Sserunkuma Simon made it 2-2 two minutes later.

Kyambadde got his second of the day and Express’ third, five minutes after the hour mark heading home Sserunkuma’s cross.

It was veteran striker, Hood Kaweesa who salvaged a point for Police scoring the equaliser in the 88th minute.

The result meant Express moved one place up to sixth on 13 points while Police remained second from the bottom with seven points.
